Let's make a wish for 2022; here is mine...

Happy Sunday, and Happy New Year!

I’m not a big fan of compiling summaries for New Year’s; while it’s cool to read some of yours’, my own ones are here every week, and there isn’t much extra to say in terms of facts or events.

Going back to our pre-Covid tradition, Ellie and I rented a cottage for a week around NYE, somewhere where there’s snow and XC skiing trails. This year we’re in Carinthia, Austria 🇦🇹

However, in terms of sentiment; absolutely, to me this was a very good year.

A year ago, we were relieved to say goodbye to confusing and sad 2020, and were looking forward to a 2021 of mostly going back-to-normal.

My feeling is that this is exactly what 2021 turned out to be. It may be a new normal, but we’re slowly going out again, traveling again, meeting people for work again. Slowly but surely. All the while we’ve become much more conscious about public health, and about the differences of opinion between us.

From that vantage point, it’s been one of our best years yet. We’re going forward, but in a leaner, smarter way, better prepared for the challenges that will come.

All alone, just the two of us, in our cottage in front of the fire, we celebrated the onset of 2022 in our favorite way.

And so, Ellie and I have two wishes:

1. That we all experience 2022 the same way the two of us experienced 2021.

2. That we can meet you in person this year! Some of you we see every day or week, but the majority we haven’t seen since I started Sunday Max last February. Let’s meet! Come say hi in Sofia, or share your travel plans or whereabouts, and we’ll come visit.
